Our Origin Story
ABL Fitness was born from a simple but powerful observation: fitness spaces weren't designed for everyone. While traditional gyms focused on performance metrics and idealized bodies, we saw individuals with diverse abilities being left behind—not because they couldn't benefit from fitness, but because fitness hadn't learned to accommodate them.
Founded by Karen Hurley, a physical therapist with over 20 years of experience working with neurodiverse populations, ABL Fitness emerged as a response to this gap. Karen recognized that the principles of functional fitness—movements that translate to real-life activities—were perfectly suited for adaptive applications, but needed the right environment and approach to be truly inclusive.
The name ABL stands for "Aiming Beyond Limits"—a philosophy that drives everything we do. We believe that limitations exist not in people, but in environments, expectations, and opportunities. By redesigning the fitness experience from the ground up, we've created a space where athletes of all neurological and physical profiles can not only participate, but excel.
Today, ABL Fitness stands as New England's premier limitless strength facility, serving hundreds of athletes and their families while pioneering new approaches to adaptive fitness methodology.
